Efficiency for the Future
From May 2020 to March of 2022, the monthly average price of Russian natural gas increased twenty-six fold causing global disruption to energy prices. Energy efficiency becomes paramount for glass manufacturers when faced with such volatility. Stewart Engineers' EcoMelt™ float glass furnaces are designed for energy efficiency and a 20 year long life.
StewartFloat® tin baths optimize energy efficiency and include training to minimize or even eliminate electric heating during production. Efficiency is the way of the future.
Energy efficient operations are important, but producing energy efficient products has a greater impact. On-line Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) coatings save energy by blocking excess heat and reducing heat transfer in windows. A float line can produce windows that save 54,000 MWh per year with only 30% CVD coating production. That is over a million MWh savings over the produced windows’ 20 year life span and equates to 750,000 tons of CO2 reduction. Save energy while significantly increasing margins.
